Arch Coal To Pay $4M For Chemical Discharges

Law360, New York (March 1, 2011, 3:05 PM EST) -- Arch Coal Inc. has agreed to shell out $4 million and implement changes to its mining operations to settle allegations that it violated the Clean Water Act in Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday.

The coal company agreed to the settlement in a consent decree filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of West Virginia alongside a complaint alleging numerous violations of Arch Coal’s permits that set limits on pollutants discharged into streams
