UK Competition Watchdog To Probe Ferry Route Deal

Law360, New York (March 1, 2011, 5:37 PM EST) -- The U.K.’s competition regulator issued a formal statement Tuesday outlining its investigation into whether a Swedish ferry operator's purchase of two Irish Sea routes from a Danish rival will damage competition.

The country's Competition Commission will investigate at least three ways in which Stena AB’s December purchase of the trade routes from DFDS A/S may have affected competition in the U.K., the agency said.

Damages could include a loss of actual competition for ferry passengers and freight shippers, a loss of potential competition for ferry passengers...
