J&J's Ethicon Unit Reveals Surgical Suture Recall

Law360, New York (March 2, 2011, 7:39 PM EST) -- Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson confirmed Wednesday that its Ethicon Inc. surgical products division voluntarily pulled 107 batches of surgical sutures from shelves in December due to potential sterility problems.

The recall of sutures sold under the brand names Ethilon, Ethibond, Mersilene and Mersilk was first revealed in a statement on the website of the U.K. Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, which said the affected products may have faulty packaging seals, thus the contents of the individually wrapped sutures may not be sterile.
