Australia, Malaysia Commit To Trade Deal By 2012

Law360, New York (March 3, 2011, 2:44 PM EST) -- Australia and Malaysia hope to conclude a free trade agreement within a year, the leaders of the two nations said in a joint press conference Thursday.

Australia and Malaysia began talks aimed at concluding a bilateral free trade agreement in 2005, but, so far, have failed to close the deal.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak agreed this week to step up those negotiations with the goal of concluding an agreement by the end of 2011 and having the agreement signed...
