Judge Denies Severance In Ala. Corruption Case

Law360, New York (March 3, 2011, 6:00 PM EST) -- A federal judge on Wednesday denied motions for severance by six of 11 defendants indicted in connection with an alleged multimillion-dollar vote-buying scheme to swing the Alabama Legislature in favor of pro-gambling measures.

None of the defendants effectively proved that prosecutors erred by joining their cases or that they would be prejudiced if the cases were tried together, Judge Myron H. Thompson of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama said in his order.
