GOP Sens. Aim To Curb EPA's Mine Permit Veto Power

Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul of Kentucky rolled out legislation Thursday that would limit the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to veto permits needed to dispose of mining waste into waterways, saying the bill will help curb the agency’s “war on coal.”

The Mining Jobs Protection Act would force the EPA to decide “within a reasonable time frame” whether to invoke its authority under the Clean Water Act to veto Section 404 permits, which are issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers....
