DOJ Official Says Reverse Payments Not Illegal

Law360, New York (April 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A top Department of Justice official said Wednesday that the agency disagreed with the stance the Federal Trade Commission has taken against reverse payments.

David L. Meyer, a deputy assistant attorney general in the DOJ’s Antitrust Division, told reporters after participating in a panel at the American Bar Association’s spring meeting that the payments shouldn’t be considered illegal.

“That is not the Department of Justice’s position,” Meyer said, according to Dow Jones.
