USPS Hit Over Undeliverable Mail System Patent

Law360, New York (March 4, 2011, 4:16 PM EST) -- An Alabama company that specializes in processing undeliverable mail accused the U.S. Postal Service last Monday in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims of incorporating patented technology in its latest system for handling dead letters.

Return Mail Inc. accused the USPS of infringing a patent for an automated system that processes returned and undeliverable mail, saving companies millions of dollars in dead letter mailings.
