China Lauds EU Decision To Drop Modem Aid Probe

Law360, New York (March 4, 2011, 7:08 PM EST) -- Chinese officials said Friday they were pleased with a decision by the European Commission to end an investigation into whether the Asian nation was unfairly subsidizing its modem manufacturers.

The decision sends "positive signals" and would help boost bilateral trade and the development of a stronger economic relationship between China and the European Union, China's Ministry of Commerce said in a statement.

The move also set an example for how both sides could cope with friction over trade issues, the ministry said.
