Japan Halts Pfizer, Sanofi Pediatric Vaccines

Law360, New York (March 7, 2011, 3:01 PM EST) -- Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare on Friday suspended the use of two pediatric vaccinations manufactured by Pfizer Inc. and Sanofi-Aventis SA as investigators probed the deaths of four children who received one or both drugs.

According to the ministry, the deaths reported since March 2 involved children between the ages of six months and two years who had been given Pfizer's Prevenar, which immunizes against invasive pneumococcal diseases including meningistis; Sanofi-Aventis' ActHIB, which protects against haemophilus influenza type B, a type of bacteria that...
