EU To Update Trade Policy Procedures

Law360, New York (March 7, 2011, 5:09 PM EST) -- The European Union took the first step Monday toward streamlining the way it decides and implements trade policy.

The EU’s executive body, the European Commission, is proposing to simplify the way trade legislation is adopted and extend to trade regulation the “comitology” rules that cover other areas of EU policymaking, according to a press release.

The so-called Omnibus I proposal covers 24 trade regulations, including the rules regarding the E.U’s generalized system of preferences, market access and trade barrier regulation and the implementation of bilateral agreements,...
