Potential Bid For ABN Amro Raises Concerns In U.S.

Law360 (April 19, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- If ABN Amro Holding NV accepts a potential takeover bid by the Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC, their combined U.S. operations could create an anti-competitive market share in the U.S. banking sector, according to analysts.

Citi Investment Research has revealed data that suggested a possible merger between Royal Bank’s Citizens Bank subsidiary and ABN Amro’s LaSalle Bank would lead to a market share of more than 30% of all bank deposits in the Detroit federal banking sector, according to a Dow Jones report Thursday....
