FTC Clears Danaher's Beckman Buy But Hurdles Remain

Law360, New York (March 9, 2011, 3:10 PM EST) -- The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday granted an early termination to its antitrust review of Danaher Corp.'s planned $6.8 billion purchase of lab equipment maker Beckman Coulter Inc., but hurdles remain in the form of lawsuits and shareholder approval.

The FTC said it had accepted the companies' request for an early termination, meaning the agency has completed its antitrust review of the deal and decided not to take any enforcement action during the deal's statutory waiting period.
