Canadian Provinces Tighten Gas Extraction Regs

Law360, New York (March 9, 2011, 9:41 PM EST) -- Canadian provinces Quebec and Alberta decided this week to increase oversight of shale gas and oil sands extraction methods, following the release of two reports recommending a comprehensive review of the oil and gas industry's environmental impact.

Pierre Arcand, Quebec's environmental minister, on Tuesday espoused a report from a sustainable development agency that examined the methods of shale-gas extraction in the region and recommended a halt on new drilling until further studies can be conducted.
