Labor Issues Holding Up Colombia FTA: USTR

Law360 (March 17, 2011, 2:14 PM EDT) -- A top U.S. trade official told Congress on Thursday that while the Obama administration "shares the sense of urgency" lawmakers have about the need for a free trade agreement with Colombia, serious labor issues must be resolved before the deal is approved.

Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Miriam Sapiro told the House Ways and Means Committee's trade subcommittee that she has met several times in the past few weeks with senior Colombia officials about the deal, with another meeting scheduled for immediately after the hearing.
