Pfizer Sues Poland's Top Drug Maker Over Viagra Knockoff

Law360, New York (October 6, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Poland’s largest drug maker, Polpharma, has registered an erectile dysfunction drug with the same active ingredient as Pfizer Inc.’s blockbuster drug Viagra, prompting the U.S. drug maker to prepare legal action.

Polpharma registered its version, called Maxigra, earlier this year, but has made no official estimate on when the impotence pills might be marketed, according to news reports.

Pfizer's Polish unit, Pfizer Polska, claims that an impotence drug containing sildenafil, Viagra's main ingredient, would infringe its patent.
