Senate Bill Would Protect Legislative Whistleblowers

Law360, New York (March 16, 2011, 2:29 PM EDT) -- Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, introduced legislation Monday to extend protections for whistleblowers in the executive branch to congressional employees.

S. 586, the Congressional Whistleblower Protection Act of 2011, would effectively incorporate provisions of the Whistleblower Protection Act of 1989 into the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995, Grassley said.

The Whistleblower Protection Act prohibits executive branch departments and agencies from taking retaliatory action against any employee who reports waste, fraud, abuse or other wrongdoing at the agency.
