RJ Reynolds Asks Fla. High Court To Mull $28M Verdict

Law360, New York (March 16, 2011, 4:33 PM EDT) -- R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. asked the Florida Supreme Court on Monday to review a $28.3 million jury verdict that could bolster thousands of individual litigants seeking to hold tobacco companies liable for smoking-related health problems.

The tobacco company is seeking to overturn a Florida First District Court of Appeal decision to uphold a verdict in favor of Matilde C. Martin, whose husband Benny Martin, a longtime smoker of the Lucky Strike cigarette brand, died in 1995 from lung cancer.
