DOJ To Investigate Barclays/ABN Amro Merger

Law360, New York (April 23, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice will reportedly investigate the proposed $91 billion merger of Dutch bank ABN Amro Holding NV and British counterpart Barclays Plc.

Though Barclays has no retail arm in the United States, the DOJ will look at the merger partly because Barclays has a sizeable global investment banking operation and partly because Bank of America Corp. is acquiring LaSalle for $21 billion as part of the deal, Dow Jones reported.
