Obama Orders NRC To Probe US Nuclear Plant Safety

Law360, New York (March 17, 2011, 5:11 PM EDT) -- Amid concern over Japan's ongoing nuclear crisis, President Barack Obama has directed the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to investigate all U.S. nuclear facilities to assess their capacity to withstand catastrophic natural or man-made disasters.

In remarks at the White House Thursday, the president noted that the nation's nuclear power plants have undergone “exhaustive” study, and have been declared safe for any number of extreme contingencies.
