Tenn. Passes Law To Skirt Health Care Mandate

Law360, New York (March 21, 2011, 1:43 PM EDT) -- Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam signed legislation Friday allowing Tennesseans to opt out of a provision of President Barack Obama’s landmark 2010 health care bill that will require all Americans to either purchase health insurance or pay a penalty.

The bill, titled the Tennessee Health Freedom Act, says the so-called individual mandate of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act isn’t expressly provided for in the constitution.
