Bayer Hit With $137M Verdict In Tainted Rice Case

Law360, New York (March 21, 2011, 1:19 PM EDT) -- An Arkansas jury on Friday reportedly handed Riceland Foods Inc. a nearly $137 million verdict in its suit against Bayer CropScience LP over allegations that the German agricultural giant contaminated the company’s rice supply.

Following a four-week trial, jurors in the Arkansas County Circuit Court, Stuttgart, found Bayer liable for $125 million in punitive damages and $11.8 million in compensatory damages, Arkansas Business, an online news publication, reported Friday.
