Greenberg Traurig Beats Illegal Tax Shelter Claims

Law360, New York (March 22, 2011, 10:36 PM EDT) -- A Louisiana federal judge on Monday squashed a former Greenberg Traurig LLP client's suit accusing the firm and two others of tricking him into participating in an illegal tax shelter, saying the case should have been brought under securities fraud claims.

Judge Lance Africk of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana granted motions for summary judgment for Greenberg and Jay Gordon, the former head of the firm's tax practice, finding that plaintiff Daniel Conwill did not have grounds for bringing the case...
