Del Monte Recalls 60K Cantaloupes

Law360, New York (March 23, 2011, 1:15 PM EDT) -- Del Monte Fresh Produce NA Inc. issued a voluntary recall of nearly 60,000 cantaloupes on Tuesday over concerns of salmonella contamination.

The Coral Gables, Fla.-based produce company said Tuesday it was recalling 4,992 cartons of cantaloupes that were grown and shipped from the Del Monte farm in Asuncion Mita, Guatemala. Each carton contains 12 cantaloupes.

The cantaloupes have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella panama, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly or others with weakened immune...
