EU Parliament OK's Rules For Gene Therapy Industry

Law360, New York (April 25, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of establishing EU-wide rules to regulate new gene, cell and tissue therapies, in an effort to ensure product safety and to foster cross-border competition.

The rules on advanced therapies would only be limited to regulating safety, competition and access for patients, and would not address the prickly ethical issues surrounding new medical technology, the European Commission said.
