EU Court Nixes €100M In Cartel Fines On Copper Co.

Law360, New York (March 24, 2011, 1:55 PM EDT) -- A European Union court on Thursday overturned more than €100 million ($142 million) in cartel fines against Aalberts Industries NV and trimmed other penalties the European Commission issued against a group of copper fitting manufacturers in 2006.

The EU's General Court tossed a €100.80 million fine against Aalberts and two of its subsidiaries after concluding that the European Commission erred in finding that the companies participated in the cartel in 2003 and 2004, after the regulator began investigating the industry.
