Panama Trade Deal May Be Ready Soon, USTR Says

Law360, New York (March 30, 2011, 6:08 PM EDT) -- Panama's government is expected to pass labor rights legislation soon that would clear the way for final approval of its pending free trade agreement with the U.S., a top U.S. trade official said Wednesday.

Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Miriam Sapiro told the House Committee on Ways and Means' Subcommittee on Trade that legislation intended to address U.S. concerns about labor issues in the country passed a key vote in the Panamanian legislature on Tuesday night.
