ProMedica Merger In Ohio Blocked Over Antitrust Fears

Law360, New York (March 29, 2011, 5:00 PM EDT) -- An Ohio federal judge on Tuesday preliminarily blocked ProMedica Health System Inc. from further consolidating operations with a community hospital in the state, finding the combination could threaten competition.

In siding with the Federal Trade Commission and the state of Ohio, Judge David Katz of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio ruled that ProMedica and St. Luke's Hospital must abide by the current hold-separate agreement until all legal proceedings, including appeals, by the FTC are complete.
