Sens. Propose Long-Term Oversight For Oil Policy

Law360, New York (March 31, 2011, 2:52 PM EDT) -- Sens. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., and Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, on Wednesday proposed a new independent policy council to buffer long-term goals to reduce oil imports from political power shifts in Washington.

Merkley and Snowe introduced S. 689, the Energy Security Act of 2011, which would create the National Energy Security Council to keep focus on the task of ending dependence on foreign oil even through changes of presidential administrations and ensuing policy shuffles, in which long-term goals can get lost.
