Former IRS Director Pleads Guilty To Tax Fraud

Law360, New York (April 27, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A former district director of the Internal Revenue Service pled guilty Thursday to conspiring to defraud the government by marketing a tax program designed to sell illegal tax deductions.

Jesse Ayala Cota, 65, of Vista, Calif., pled guilty to conspiracy to defraud the IRS in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas.

He faces up to five years in prison followed by up to three years of supervised release, as well as a $250,000 fine. Judge Carlos Murguia scheduled sentencing for January 2008....
