House Panel Advances Bills To Defund Health Care Law

Law360, New York (April 6, 2011, 4:58 PM EDT) -- A U.S. House of Representatives committee on Tuesday reported out five bills that take the first steps to choke off the new health care law by defunding key pieces, limiting new authorities and restoring congressional budgetary oversight over its implementation.

The five bills passed by the House Energy and Commerce Committee comprise key planks of Republicans' “repeal and replace” legislative strategy, taking aim at core provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which President Barack Obama signed into law in 2010.
