Wal-Mart Illegally Blocking Unions: Report

Law360, New York (May 1, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Human Rights Watch offered a blistering account of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Tuesday, saying the U.S.’s largest employer violates federal law in its efforts to keep its workers from organizing and joining labor unions.

Wal-Mart countered the allegations by saying that the report was “pro-union” and that it was based on “incomplete reviews and unsubstantiated allegations.”

Human Rights Watch’s 210-page report “Discounting Rights: Wal-Mart’s Violation of U.S. Workers’ Right to Freedom of Association” charges Wal-Mart with suppressing worker organization and exploiting weak labor laws.
