Petrohawk Unit Admits Killing Endangered Ark. Mussel

Law360, New York (April 8, 2011, 4:14 PM EDT) -- A unit of Petrohawk Energy Corp. pled guilty Friday in Arkansas to violating the Endangered Species Act by killing speckled pocketbook mussels when it failed to control erosion as it developed natural gas properties in the Fayetteville Shale.

Hawk Field Services LLC will pay a $350,000 fine and donate $150,000 to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation for use in restoration projects in the surrounding Little Red River watershed, according to a plea agreement in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas....
