Trade Group Urges Owners To Disclose Patents

Law360, New York (May 1, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An association of engineers on Tuesday became the second standards-setting organization to take steps to encourage patent owners to disclose their patents in an attempt to foster competition for licensing contracts.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.’s new policy will allow patent owners to tell the group about a patent, and any licensing term, such as fees or royalties, early in the standards-setting procedure.
