FTC, CFTC To Share Info In Energy Enforcement

Law360, New York (April 12, 2011, 5:36 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission said Tuesday that they had signed an agreement to share confidential information, an arrangement they said will better their oversight of energy markets and help them prevent unlawful manipulation.

Both the FTC and the CFTC have the authority to take legal action to stop unlawful activity in the oil market. The FTC, for example, reviews mergers in the energy industry, while the CFTC has exclusive jurisdiction to regulate exchanges and clearing organizations in the U.S....
