DOJ Digs Deeper In $3.6B Bus Merger

Law360, New York (May 2, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice has expanded its probe into a proposed $3.6 billion merger between the United Kingdom’s largest bus operator and the United States’ largest school bus provider.

FirstGroup PLC and Laidlaw International Inc. on Tuesday said that the DOJ had asked for more information about FirstGroup’s bid to buy out Naperville, Ill.-based Laidlaw. According to the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, a second request gives the agency an additional month for review before it weighs in.
