Pa. DEP Accused Of Rubber-Stamping Gas Permits

Law360 (April 13, 2011, 7:04 PM EDT) -- Environmentalists seeking to overturn Newfield Appalachia PA LLC’s permit for a Marcellus Shale drilling project released depositions last week revealing that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection spends about 35 minutes on each permit application.

The depositions were taken last month by Damascus Citizens for Sustainability in its appeal and filed with the Pennsylvania Environmental Hearing Board, which is hearing environmental groups’ challenge to the permit.
