Bill Seeks To Temper FDA Oversight Of Drug Imports

Law360 (April 13, 2011, 8:12 PM EDT) -- House Democrats introduced a bill Tuesday aimed at boosting the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's ability to regulate drugs manufactured outside of the U.S.

The Drug Safety Enhancement Act, sponsored by Rep. John D. Dingell, D-Mich., would give greater funding to the FDA to inspect drugs imported into the U.S., increase civil and criminal penalties to deter the importation of unsafe or counterfeit drugs, and prohibit undocumented drugs from entering the country.
