Smiths Medical Sued Over Suction System Patent

Law360, New York (April 13, 2011, 6:43 PM EDT) -- A Florida inventor sued medical device maker Smiths Medical ASD Inc. on Monday, alleging the company's catheter products infringe his patent for a suction system.

In a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Naples, Fla. resident Ronald D. Russo sued the U.S. unit of British technology company Smiths Group PLC seeking compensation for the alleged patent infringement.

The suit asserts U.S. Patent Number 7,779,842, issued to Russo in August and titled "Suction system with high-efficiency suction control valve."...
