New York Attorney General Letitia James on Wednesday opened a new online portal for pictures and videos of federal immigration enforcement actions following a massive raid on street vendors on Canal Street in Lower Manhattan.
James encouraged anyone who witnessed the enforcement action conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to share photos and videos with her office but did not specify in the release how the media would be used.
The form asks for a variety of information, including the name and address of the person submitting the media, as well as whether they are represented by an attorney or are planning to file a legal action. The form also requires users seeking to upload videos to also post them to a third-party site like YouTube or Instagram.
The announcement comes one day after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced on social media that ICE agents had arrested nine people who were suspected of being in the country illegally.
The raid occurred on Canal Street, a business hub in Lower Manhattan famous for its unlicensed street vendors. It also took place blocks away from 26 Federal Plaza, a federal building that houses an immigration detention facility on the 10th floor and has become a flashpoint in the immigration debate since President Donald Trump took office in January.
Last month, city officials were arrested outside the facility during protests advocating for better treatment of immigrants held there.
A spokesperson for ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.
