Chile Pushes $19M Antitrust Fines For Coke Bottlers

Law360, New York (April 21, 2011, 3:30 PM EDT) -- Chilean prosecutors accused two local Coca-Cola bottlers Tuesday of unfairly using discounts and other incentives to keep stores from selling cheaper rival brands, asking the country's competition court to fine the companies about $19 million each.

The National Economic Prosecutor asked Chile's Competition Tribunal to bar Embotelladora Andina SA and Coca-Cola Embonor SA from engaging in "exclusionary practices" that threaten the sales and distribution of other carbonated beverages, the antitrust watchdog said Wednesday.
