Obama To Push Panama Deal With Trade Package

Law360 (April 28, 2011, 7:15 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama said Thursday that he expected to push a free trade agreement with Panama through Congress this year as part of a comprehensive trade package to be presented to lawmakers.

Obama also praised Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli's reform efforts to help make the free trade deal — one of several agreements held over from the previous administration that were designed to give the U.S. greater access to key emerging markets in Latin America and South Korea — more palatable to the U.S.
