Alaska Lawmakers Indicted In Oil Scheme

Law360 (May 7, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An Alaska legislator and two former lawmakers have been indicted for accepting over $400,000 dollars in bribes in exchange for backing the construction of a natural gas pipeline and a new tax law that would benefit oil producers.

Rep. Victor Kohring and former Reps. Pete Kott and Bruce Weyhrauch were each charged with conspiracy to commit extortion, interference with commerce, bribery and wire and mail fraud, according to the indictment.

The three were arrested on Friday and pled not guilty.
