WTO Panel To Hear EU-Norway Seal Ban Dispute

Law360, New York (April 27, 2011, 6:02 PM EDT) -- The World Trade Organization last week established a panel to hear a dispute between Norway and the European Union over the bloc's ban on seal products.

The same panel will hear parallel complaints lodged by Norway and Canada, which both claim that the ban is inconsistent with international trade law and would cause millions of dollars' worth of damage to their revenues from seal hunting, the WTO's dispute settlement body decided April 21.
