Swiss Watchdog Opens Probe Into Swisscom Network Deal

Law360, New York (April 29, 2011, 5:44 PM EDT) -- Switzerland's antitrust watchdog said Friday it lacked the authority to sign off on Swisscom Ltd.'s plans to build a fiber-optic network with Groupe E SA, but opened a new investigation into the contract for the project.

Describing their efforts as a joint venture, the two companies sought merger approval from the Swiss Competition Commission in September for their plans to replace the fixed copper and coaxial cable lines currently used for telephone and broadband Internet service in the canton of Fribourg.
