RJ Reynolds, Philip Morris Hit With $40M Verdict In Fla.

Law360, New York (April 29, 2011, 6:34 PM EDT) -- A Florida state court jury said Thursday that R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and Philip Morris USA Inc. should pay $40 million to the family of a woman who died after smoking for 36 years.

The jury in Jacksonville, Fla., said Andy Allen, husband to the late Patty Allen, and his daughter deserved more than $6 million in damages and $34 million in punitive damages — more than their lawyers asked for.
