S. African Watchdog Creates Specialized Cartel Unit

Law360, New York (May 5, 2011, 3:06 PM EDT) -- Faced with a growing number of price-fixing cases, South Africa's antitrust watchdog created a new unit focused on cartels and named a commercial crimes specialist to run the division, the regulator said Thursday.

Amid dozens of bid-rigging cases involving the construction industry, the South African Competition Commission tapped advocate Oliver Josie to run its newly launched Cartels Division, which will focus on price-fixing, market allocation, bid-rigging and other horizontal anti-competitive practices.
