US Sues Ohio To Stop Mining Near Reservoir

Law360, New York (May 5, 2011, 3:54 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government sued Ohio and a local coal company Wednesday for allegedly breaking a deal more than 60 years old that barred coal mining near a flood control reservoir.

The U.S. asked an Ohio federal judge to stop the state and Buckingham Coal Co. from mining near the Burr Oak Reservoir in Athens County, a flood control, water supply and conservation reservoir created by a 1948 agreement between the state and federal governments.
