US Mulls Expanding Trade Pact On Tech Goods

Law360, New York (May 5, 2011, 6:41 PM EDT) -- U.S. officials are considering renegotiating a 15-year-old international trade agreement that eliminated tariffs on numerous information technology products, according to a Thursday filing seeking comments on whether the deal should be expanded to cover electronics developed since 1996.

The U.S. Trade Representative's Trade Policy Staff Committee asked for input on whether the government should broaden the Information Technology Agreement and, if so, for what products negotiators should try to win duty-free protection under the trade deal, a notice to be published in the Federal Register said....
