Swiss Activists Form Coalition To Oppose Proposed Patent Law Revisions

Law360, New York (October 25, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- More than 30 Swiss activist groups have formed a coalition to oppose the government’s planned revision of the country’s patent laws.

At a conference in Bern this week, the coalition of ecologists, farmers, researchers and consumers told reporters that the planned overhaul favors industry and neglects ethical and social issues.

In particular, the group voiced its opposition to allowing patents on plants, animals and the human body, including cells and genes.
